The streaks of color in pietersite may appear rather chaotic, and can flow or exist in many directions side-by-side like bold paint strokes. The colors of gold, brown blue and some reds can be found on both the front and on the polished back of this stone. Pietersite is very rare, found only two places in the world - China and Africa.

This is a thin stone being only about 4mm thick, but was such a fine example of the brecciated pattern created when the fibrous structure in pietersite has been folded, stressed, even fractured and/or broken apart via the Earth's geologic processes then re-healed with quartz., I had to set it and show as much of the stone as possible.

About Pietersite:
The gemstone has originated from Namibia and is very rare to find. The discoverer, Sid Pieters found this stone almost by accident in the year 1962. The gemstone has a very fascinating history that makes it all the more desirable.

The surface of this stone is fairly chaotic with streaks and colors extending in every direction. While forming a crystal the materials break apart, they swirl in every direction and it is then brought together by quartz.

There are various colors that are available which includes blues, golds, browns and rusty reds. There is a wide variety of blue available which ranges from dark midnight blue to baby blue.
